Measurement Sensors and Reflection Have you ever wondered why some measurement sensors can only be used on dull surfaces (e.g. thread depth measurement on a tire), or only on shiny surfaces (e.g. thickness measurement of glass)? In order to fully grasp the concept, some basics on reflection must be covered. Let’s get some background information on reflection.

An Introduction To Relays  A Relay is an electrical component whose output is controlled in an open or closed position by applying or removing drive voltage from an electrically isolated circuit. For many years, electromechanical Relays were the only choice to perform such a function. During the last two decades, however, new technologies have emerged enabling semiconductors to switch output circuits with an electrical control signal via electronic, magnetic, optical or other means that require no mechanical movement.

Reading Date Codes Date codes, or lot numbers, are used in manufacturing to identify when a component was made. It can be used for production quality control, as well as tracing purposes in the factory. Panasonic uses three different code formats to identify the date on a Relay:

Speed Control Loop A good example of a speed control loop is the action taken when adjusting the speed of the belt (or conveyor) to maintain the speed at a desired RPM (or Travel Time). This typically involves an encoder mounted on the belt/conveyor, connected to a PLC high-speed counter (HSC), used as a feedback to measure its speed.

Sensing Ranges Why do Sensing Ranges vary depending on their make-up when using Diffusing Sensing? A diffuse/reflective sensor shines its light onto a sensing object and detects the object by how strong the light (intensity) is reflected back.
