Understanding Bluetooth® Special Interest Group (SIG) Fees

As of February 2014, the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) has instituted a new listing process (click here) that requires companies to declare compliance with the terms and conditions in the Bluetooth Trademark License Agreement and Bluetooth Patent/Copyright License Agreement.  Each declaration must contain a Qualified Design ID (QDID), Declaration ID, and a list of product(s) using the qualified design.

In order to receive a Declaration ID, a company must pay a listing fee of either $4,000 for Associate Members or $8,000 for Adopter Members of the Bluetooth SIG (Learn more about SIG membership levels by clicking here). Additionally, the ‘Innovation Incentive Program’ was introduced, which allows small and start-up member companies new to Bluetooth technology to list their first Bluetooth products at a discounted price. This program enables member companies with less than one million USD in annual revenue and no prior listings to acquire up to two Declaration IDs for an introductory listing fee of $2,500 each.

A Declaration ID is a unique identification number assigned to a listing and used as a reference for the member’s Declaration of Compliance (DoC). A single listing fee and Declaration ID may include multiple products within the Product List if the same Compliant Portion is implemented in each. The process of obtaining a Declaration ID follows the required Qualification Testing and Documentation process.  All products implementing Bluetooth wireless technology must complete applicable testing requirements based on their design’s supported features. Successful completion of this process will grant you a QDID for reference in the Declaration and Listing process, which is outlined below.

Declaration and Listing Process

Following qualification and testing, you will receive a QDID, which you will need to reference in the declaration and listing process as outlined below:
